A native of the Highfield area of Harare, Muteta is the youngest of four in a family which originates from Mutoko; his totem is \"Soko Murehwa\", or the monkey. He began sculpting in 1989 while in secondary school in Harare, later becoming an assistant to Danny Kanyemba. He was encouraged to start work on his own as a full-time sculptor by Moses Masaya. He has a great love for Shona culture and this coupled with his imaginative and innovative ability has ensured that his work is of a very high quality and standard and has earned him admiration from collectors around the world. Lincon bases his work on day-to-day events that interest him and the feelings and emotions of the people around him. His faces and gestures reflect the joys and sadness experienced by the sprawling population of Chitungwiza suburb where he also lives.
