RICHARD MTEKI.

Born in 1947, in Harare, Zimbabwe. Richard trained at the Nyarutsetso Art Centre and the National Gallery Workshop School.His distinctive and personal style secured a loyal and eager following of collectors and his work is represented in the overseas collection of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe where he has exhibited in the Annual Exhibition since 1965. AWARDS & ACHIEVEMENTS 1986 Zimbabwe Bird commissioned for Harare Stadium 1987 Work selected as gift presentation to Nigerian President by President Robert Mugabe. SELECTED GROUP EXHIBITIONS 1981 Retrospective exhibition of Shona Sculpture, Zimbabwe House, London 1985 Contemporary Stone Sculpture from Zimbabwe, Irving Sculpture Gallery, Sydney in association with The Gallery of Shona Sculpture, Harare. 1986 Soul in Stone, Irving Sculpture Gallery, Sydney in association with The Gallery Shona Sculpture, Harare. 1987 International Contemporary Art Fair, los Angeles Convention Centre, Los Angeles 1987-88 Chicago International Art Exposition, Chicago. 1988 International Gallery Invitational, Jacobs Jaunts Convention Centre, New York.Australia Art Expo, Darling Harbour, Sydney. 1990-91 Contemporary Stone Carvings from Zimbabwe, Yorkshire Sculpture Park.1990 Stone Sculpture from Zimbabwe, Millesgarden Museum, Stockholm, Sweden.1994-98 Represented in Talking Stones exhibitions of Shona Sculpture at the Contemporary Fine Art Gallery, Eton. Through them has exhibited at Art 94,95,96,97,98 at the Business Design Centre, London and also the Chelsea Fine Art and Antiques fair and City of London Art Fair. In recent years Richards work has establshed itself as a firm favourite with both corporate and private collectors, both in this country and abroad.
