Cherylene Dyer was born in Dumfries and studied at Glasgow School of Art graduating in 1998, with an honours degree in drawing and painting. Since graduation she has continued living in Glasgow and painting full time. She regularly exhibits work in London and through out Scotland. She specialises in figurative oil painting, with her main inspirations coming from the old masters. Listing Rembrandt and Caravaggio as key influences in her work. The main aims of her work are to create atmosphere and ambiguity, obscuring the subjects that she paints with glaze upon glaze of paint.
She gives the viewer only the basic information to build an image, compelling them to guess the rest. The quote of her work is intended to force the viewer to act as voyeur, if they ask the questions of what he/she is up to or feel? They could be part to someone's private moment, and then the work is successful.
