MARK MULHOLLAND
Mark Mulholland is a Scottish contemporary artist graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 1993. That year he was awarded the John Kinross Scholarship to Florence, and was inspired to remain in the Tuscan capital for the next six years working as a sculptor and bronze founder. In the last five years Mulholland has returned to his first love of painting to explore the broad theme of identity, with his inspiration coming from his own personal life experiences. He explores his interests of love, family, nature and faith through his colourful compositions, which involve the figure and natural forms in a variety of settings. Visual symbolism and narrative are important elements in his work. Mulholland works predominantly in the medium of oil painting on board or canvas, generally building up the surface with thin paint application and glazes.
