THE LATE CLAUDE HARRISON ARCA, R.P.

Represented since 1988.

Claude Harrison ARCA, RP was born in Leyland, Lancashire in 1922. He was educated at Hutton Grammar School 1930-39, Preston College of Art 1939-41, Liverpool College of Art 1941-42 and the Royal College of Art 1947-50 (having spent 1942-47 in the RAF). He has had studios at Ambleside, Westmoreland, 1950-53, Windemere 1953-59 and Easedale, Grasmere from 1959. He has completed several interesting commissions during his career, including murals at Rydale, Yorkshire, Blackpool, Lancashire, and St.Annes, Lancashire. He is a painter of portraits, conversation pieces and imaginative figurative compositions. He is married to the painter, Audrey Johnson.

Exhibitions

  • Numerous group exhibitions in this country and abroad.
  • Regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.
  • He has held one-man exhibitions in London, Italy and the U.S.A. and the North of England, in addition to featuring in many group exhibitions, including the Christmas shows at the Contemporary Fine Art Gallery, Eton.
  • He has had work selected and hung at the Royal Academy summer exhibition for the past thirty two years.

  • "The Portrait Painter`s Handbook", 1968, Studio Vista and Watson-Gill.
  • "The Book of Tobit", Private Publication, 1969, in aid of Unicef.
