The Contemporary Fine Art Gallery Eton: Artist Biography - CHUNG SHEK

CHUNG SHEK

Chung Shek became interested in art during early childhood in The Netherlands and is largely self-taught. Original works by the likes of Vermeer, Ingres and Bouguereau greatly influenced him and focussed the direction of his work towards the realistic genre of paintings. The versatility of oils naturally gravitates him to using it as his preferred medium.

While his compositions are contemporary in style, they are firmly classical in execution. The modernity and high-impact of his work are rooted in mastering traditional artistic techniques such as sfumato, chiaroscuro, the use of dramatic lighting effect, flamboyant and richly saturated colour compositions.

This strong foundation he has gave him the confidence and motivation to produce and sell professional work by the time he reached his mid-twenties.

Human figures and the female form is a recurring theme in traditional European paintings. Chung Shek
