DAVID LLOYD.

After receiving a First Class degree (hons) in Fine Art, David Lloyd completed his post-graduate studies at the Royal Academy Schools London.. He has received the Kennington Prize as well as a Leverhume scholarship. He has exhibited widely in venues ranging from Sotheby's, London to the Centro Modigliani, Florence. He says of his paintings: "They evolve slowly over a long period of time; months or years. I try to work without preconceived ideas. I want the final image to be as mysterious and inexplicable to me as it, hopefully, is to the viewer. During the painting process I try to stay dumb. I try not to listen to my head. I don't want to make clever, cerebral, issue-based images. I want to listen to my heart. This isn't an anti-intellectual position exactly, it's just that I'm not particularly intelligent or sophisticated, so any attempts to make 'conceptual' work would be obvious and banal. I'm suspicious of any artist who claims to be the final authority on his/her work. An artist who thinks he/she is ultimately in control of what he or she makes is working under an illusion. The most interesting part of what any artist does, is done without conscious control. For me painting is like pushing an awkward supermarket trolley. It's easy to push it, but it's hard to steer it."
